Arthur W. "Skip" Shirey, age 69, of Lewisville, Arkansas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 12, 2014, after a brave and courageous fight with cancer. Mr. Shirey was born April 12, 1945 in Texarkana, Texas. He was a lifelong farmer, cattle rancher, and an avid Nascar fan, who dedicated himself to hard work. He was a Christian whose membership was at First Baptist Church, Lewisville, Arkansas; and he also attended Unity Baptist Church in Hope, Arkansas where he made a lot of Christian friends that called and visited regularly during his illness.
Mr. Shirey was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Berniece Shirey; his father, Arthur M. Shirey, Sr.; his paternal grandparents, A.M. Shirey, Sr. and Susie Nash Shirey; his maternal grandparents, Ben and Cusetta Wheat; and Easter and Shelly McDonald.
He is survived by his children, Melanie Shirey Glass and husband, Scott of Lewisville, AR; Stephanie Estes and husband, Jerry of Texarkana, AR; and Wheat Shirey and wife, JoGwen of Lewisville, AR; eight grandchildren; a half-brother, William G. Shirey; and lifelong friends, Bruce and Linda Alford and their children, spouses, and grandchildren who were considered part of his family.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps, AR with Bro. Charlie Zumwalt, Bro. Glen Tropp, and Bro. Charles Bell officiating. Interment will follow at Lee Cemetery in Lewisville, AR. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at the Smith Funeral Home in Stamps. Mr. Shirey always had a very big heart and therefore in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Serenity Hospice, 210 N.
