Betty Jo Eddy Nix, age 85, born November 6, 1938, passed from this world to the next early Saturday morning January 6, 2024, at home in Pine Bluff, AR. After a long battle with many illnesses the body gave up but her spirit lives on.

Betty was married to the love of her life Gerald Nix for 66 years. Surviving Betty and Gerald are three sons; Tim (wife Sallie) of Hope, AR, Alan (wife Drena) of Buckner, AR, and Jeff (wife Angie) of Star City AR, and a daughter Connie Wreyford (husband Todd) of Grapevine, AR, five grandchildren; TJ Wreyford and wife Hayley (sons Jack and Whitley), Dr. Kasey Nix and wife Samantha (children Evan, Ava, Eva), Susanna Nix (son Atticus), Madeline Nix, and Brittnee Hearnsberger and husband Zac (children Bowen, August, Riggin, and Korban), in all 10 great grandchildren, Betty's sister Carolyn, and Betty's adopted family Christian and Ruby Martinez and their sons Jesse, Gabriel, and little Alan, along with a host of other family, friends and neighbors.

Betty was predeceased by her husband Gerald, parents Barney and Gladys Eddy and brother Donald Eddy all of Stamps and granddaughter Candace Nix McDaniel of Pine Bluff.

Betty was raised in the Sardis community near Stamps, married Gerald and moved to Pine Bluff where she became a very active wife and mother using her talents and creativity, raising kids, cooking, decorating, and sewing as a professional seamstress. Betty and Gerald spent countless hours enjoying life with their kids, grandkids, and great grandkids – going to ball games, water parks, Branson, etc. Betty had many interests. She loved almost all sports, from bull riding to t-ball, especially those in which her grand and great grands played. Betty and Gerald hardly missed one of their children's, grandchildren's, greatgrands' games, recitals, horse shows, fair entry showings, or school events for over 60 years. Betty taught her daughter, daughters-in-law, and granddaughters by example how to be wives and mothers, to love their family, cook, and keep a clean and beautiful home. Betty was truly the matriarch of her home. She was a strong, fisty woman who helped lead and served her family tirelessly. Betty was a member of Shannon Road Baptist Church.

Visitation will begin at 1:00pm with the funeral service beginning at 2:00pm on Friday, January 12, 2024, both at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps, Arkansas. Bro. Josh Blevins of Pine Bluff will officiate under the direction of A.O. Smith Funeral Homes. Interment will follow at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Buckner,Arkansas.

Pallbearers are Mark Nix, Matt Nix, Joe Don Nix, Greg Eddy, Barry Godwin, Doland Smith, Alan Martinez and Jesse Martinez.

A Tribute by Daughter, Connie Wreyford:
Mother was a stay-at-home mom and housewife who chauffeured her four children around to football practices and games, cheerleading practice, dance class & recitals, always tagging along for those long late-night horse shows. When we had a school project, many times she actually did them for us! As we got older, married, and had kids of our own, Maw, as they called her; was always ready to babysit her grandchildren, times filled with fun and creative adventures, she loved having everyone over on weekends for a home cooked meal. She enjoyed going to the grandkid's birthday parties, Christmas plays, attending band concerts, traveling to basketball games, track meets, water parks and taking all of them to Branson. When the great grandkids came along, well that was just the icing on her homemade honeybun cake! Family Easters, Thanksgivings and Christmas's were now getting larger, louder and more crowded than ever
before, but there was love and joy under Maw's roof. As a very young girl, mom discovered that she had a GOD given talent for sewing, making her own clothes, quilt pieces, and later, her very own wedding dress. Years later she made many of my (Connie's) school clothes and dance costumes. Now as an avid seamstress, she took on some work for "The Maru" in Pine Bluff, doing alterations on evening gowns and bridal wear, also making Halloween costumes for another business in town. She also made several pageant dresses and western wear outfits for friends. Mother loved to look nice while out and about, she had a great sense of style and had a knack for looking "put together", the hair, nails, jewelry, makeup, clothes, matching purse with a splash of her favorite perfume. She always said, "it doesn't necessarily have to match, just go together". With age, mom battled lung and heart issues for many years, with a devastating diagnosis of lung cancer in March of 2023. Through it all - the chemo, radiation, and multiple lengthy hospitalizations, she always had a positive attitude and spirit about her with that beautiful smile, till the Lord gave her peace, comfort and final rest in His arms. She now can reunite once again with those family members that have gone on before her. Truly missing mother's presence is so very hard, but she's in Heaven and one glorious day we'll be there to reunite with her and daddy and stand in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ as He welcomes us HOME.
