Ms. Betty Jean (Burris) Nutt was born January 17, 1932, to Virgie and Lemuel Burris in Idabel, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of two children. Betty attended and graduated from Idabel public schools. After graduation she met and married Landers Nutt. They then moved to Ashdown, Arkansas and to this union five children were born; Tony, Janua, Janice, Phillis, and Barry.
Betty worked in the Ashdown school system for 22 years before her retirement. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly. Betty really enjoyed staying up late nights with her grandchildren watching movies and having conversations which included lots of laughter. Betty loved the lord and was a faithful member of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She served on the usher board until her health started declining. Betty's laughter, love, and smile will never be forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lamuel Burris, Scott Hendricks, and Virgie Hendricks, her husband Landers, and her grandson Keamon.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters: Janua (Gerald), Janice, and Phillis, her sons; Tony (Victoria), and Barry (Diane), her brother Sammy Norwood, 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 6th , at 11: a.m. at the Greater Mt. Zion Church in Ashdown, Ark with burial following in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens in Wake Village, TX. Under direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps, AR. Officiating will be Rev. Willie Lee Ligans
