Betty Goforth Singletary, age 92 of Texarkana, Arkansas, passed away October 12, 2018. She was born and grew up in Overton, Texas. Due to the deaths of her parents, Willie B. Goforth and Opal Moore Goforth, Betty and her younger brother, Bill were raised from an early age by their Grandmother and Grandfather Goforth along with seven loving aunts and uncles. Extended relatives on the Goforth Hill afforded Betty and her brother many loving family members and memories.

Betty graduated from Overton High School and continued her education at Texas State College for Women (now Texas Woman's University). She received her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1948. She was proud of her "Tessie" education; as TSCW graduates were known.

Joe M. Singletary and Betty were married in 1946 at The Little Chapel on the TSCW campus. Betty taught school in Collinsville, Texas for a short time before she and Joe moved to East Texas. The move eventually led to a dairy farming way of life. Joe and Betty moved to what has been known as Betijo Farm, near Garland City, Arkansas in 1961. Betty ran the house while Joe ran the dairy farm. She truly utilized her home economics degree to create a home for their three children, Joe Singletary, III, Lynn Singletary and Kathy Norsworthy. Betty continued to live on the farm after Joe passed in 2002.

Betty was involved in Garland Community Church, serving as secretary/treasurer for over 30 years. She was also a very active member of the Lone Star Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) of Texarkana, Texas. Betty served as Regent for the chapter on three different occasions along with a variety of other leadership positions throughout her 50 plus years of membership. Betty was also a 50 plus member of National and Arkansas Societies of Colonial Dames XVII Century, and served in various leadership positions through the years.

A lifetime of sewing and crocheting resulted in enormous numbers of garments for her children and over 250 quilts and countless crocheted baby blankets. Her grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives, extended family and friends have all been the recipients of her talented results. She enjoyed reading and shelling pecans when not busy with her other hobbies.

Survivors include her son, Joe Singletary, III and wife, Deborah; daughter, Lynn Singletary and husband, Monte Miller; and daughter, Kathy Norsworthy and husband, Lane Norsworthy. Grandchildren are Joe Singletary, IV, Casey Singletary, Adam Miller, Zach Miller, Misha Alexander, and MacKensie Jaso; and ten great grandchildren. Extended families include Goforth and Singletary relatives. Betty touched the lives of countless others throughout her life.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Diana Kalibra, Ava Dudley, Lynda Williams, Cyndi Ryder and sitters for their love and care for Betty and support of her family. Hospice of Texarkana enhanced the quality of late life stage for Betty with caring and compassionate people and services.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Betty may be made to any of the following: Garland Community Church; Texas Woman's University Alumni (Venita Young Scholarship Fund); Lone Star DAR Chapter (scholarship fund); or Hospice of Texarkana.

Visitation will be held at East Memorial Gardens in Texarkana with Graveside Services to follow on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. under the direction of Smith Funeral Homes of Stamps, Arkansas.
