Obituary

Billy Joe Brooks, 91, of Texarkana, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday June 18, 2024. He was born in Stamps, Arkansas to William and Grace Brooks on September 17, 1932. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Texarkana, loved to go fishing in Bodcaw Creek and loved music. Being a veteran of the United States Army he served in the Korean War.  He was a member of an army band and got to play with them in New York City. Being a salesman in the office supply industry for over 50 years, he took great care of his customers in southwest AR and northeast TX, before retiring from Southwest Printers.

He was a very kind, loving and quiet man, with a neat sense of humor. Even through his many health challenges, his mind was as sharp as a 30-year-old. He shared many stories of Texarkana in the 1940's and 50's, including living as a teen during the Phantom Killer years.

Preceding Billy in death were his parents, William and Grace Brooks; his spouse of 25 years who passed away in 1997, Sue Brooks; stepson, Danny Owens; and sisters, Ruby Dodson and Addys Fischer.

Survived by his nephews, Billy Fischer (Diane) of East End, Arkansas, Bobby Fischer (Debra) of DeQueen, Arkansas, and Ronnie Fischer (Beth) of Texarkana, Arkansas; and niece, Kathryn Ann Sellers (Danny) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and many other great nephews and nieces.

Graveside services will be held at East Memorial Garden, Texarkana, on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. with Ronnie Fischer and Brother Bobby Fischer officiating.

Services are under the direction of A O Smith Funeral Home, Stamps, Arkansas.
