Bryce Cheatham, Sr., age 98, of Stamps, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017. He was a proud Veteran of WWII where he served aboard the battleship USS South Dakota and was able to watch the signing of the treaty ending the war with Japan. He retired as a truck driver from Wheeling Pipe Line and Miller Transport. The most important thing in his life was his family, his friends, and especially his church family at First United Methodist Church in Stamps. Mr. Cheatham was a former member of the Lafayette County Quorum Court.

Mr. Cheatham was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Mary Jamerson Cheatham of the Ebenezer Community in Columbia County Arkansas; his wife of 69 years, Marjorie Rogers Cheatham; grandson, Stacy McMurrough; two brothers, Carlton (Red) Cheatham and Ottis Cheatham; one sister, Corrine Swanson; and son-in-law, Pat McMurrough.

He is survived by five children, Mary Gordan of Whitehouse, TX; Janice McMurrough of Stamps, AR; Bryce Cheatham, Jr. and wife, Jeanine of Centerton, AR; Senator Eddie Cheatham and wife, Ginger of Crossett, AR; and Roger Cheatham and wife, Theresa of Whitehouse, TX; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; twenty great-great grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 10am Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps, AR with Bro. John Noggle officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Stamps. Visitation will be held from 9am until service time at the chapel. Online registration is available at www.aosmithfuneralhome.com.
