Charles Vines, age 79 of Stamps, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016 in the local nursing home. Mr. Vines was born November 22, 1937 in Buckner, Arkansas to Charles and Thelma Vines. He was a Stamps High School graduate where he graduated with honors and a distinguished military graduate of the University of Arkansas, where he earned his undergraduate degree. He took ROTC while he was at the University of Arkansas and went into the Army, serving on active duty as a Commissioned Officer of the Adjutant General's Corps. After serving two years in the Army, he went back to the University of Arkansas and received his master's degree in education. He taught only in military schools and each summer he would travel to different colleges to work on another degree such as Harvard, Ohio State, and Trinity College in Connecticut. Any form of military was his life. After teaching for several years, he decided to go to work for the Army as a civil service worker in Indianapolis, Indiana and later was sent to South Carolina where he finally had to retire in 2008. He then moved back to Stamps because he had developed Parkinson's and later Dementia. He entered Homestead Manor Nursing Home in 2011 and called that his home until he passed away and entered a better home. Mr. Vines was a member of First Baptist Church in Stamps and when he did get to attend, he really enjoyed his Sunday School class and hearing Bro. Mike Turner preach.

Mr. Vines was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother-in-law, James Goodwin.

He is survived by his sister, Doris Goodwin; and nephew, Charlie Goodwin both of Stamps, AR; and several cousins.

Funeral Services will be held at 2pm Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps, AR with Bro. Mike Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery.
