Obituary

Claudia Ann Powell Johnson, age 86 of Stamps, went to be with her Lord on December 1, 2023. She was born April 1, 1937 to Carl Erwin Tissue and Lura Pearl Stevens Tissue. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Stamps.

From raising five children to being the co-owner and founder of Lafayette County Ambulance Service, she spent her life serving others. For over 50 years she worked in EMS, as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and then as a bookkeeper for the service until retiring at age 82. She was one of the first certified EMTs in the State of Arkansas. A true pioneer to both men and women in the field today.

Despite her impressive career, her favorite title was Nanny Granny. No matter who you ask, you'll hear that her grandchildren are what meant the world to her. In her eyes, they did no wrong.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Carl Terrell Tissue, the father of her children and best friend Billy Powell, her son Randy Powell, and her husband Dennis Johnson.

She is survived by her son David Powell (Angie) of Hooks, TX, son William "Bill" Powell (Stephanie) of Stamps, daughter Lynn Bolt (David) of Lewisville, and son Charles Powell (Shayne) of Texarkana, TX, step-daughters LeeAnn Johnson of Mena, AR and Patricia Van Baalbergeren of California.

10 grandchildren, Ben Bolt, Andie Bolt, Cameron Powell, Colt Powell, Watson Powell, Kristi Powell, Dustin Powell, Kimberly Israel, Zach Powell, and Miranda Powell. 2 great granddaughters Oaklynn Powell and Ember Powell (due in April).

The family would like give a special thank you to those who helped care for Claudia over the last year: Elaine Barton, Helen Hamilton, Sheena Randle, Lacy Wheelington, the staff at Heather Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and the staff at the Hospice of Texarkana Hospice House.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Texarkana Hospice House. 2407 Galleria Oaks Dr. Texarkana, TX 75503.

Honorary pallbearers include Todd Smith (Son 2), Derick Patillo, Ronnie Smith, Rickey Smelley, Brady Gore, and Danny Ormand.
