Donald "Don" Ray Matthews, age 80 of Stamps, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018. Mr. Matthews was born March 3, 1937 in Buckner, Arkansas to James and Tena Garrett Matthews. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stamps.

Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Leon Matthews, John Jay Matthews, James Monroe Matthews, Jr., Freeman Matthews, and T.I. "Tom" Matthews; six sisters, Alta Myra Nix, Ida Mae Aldridge, Doris Nichols, Eva Jane Matthews, Cora Mae Matthews, and Emma Jean Matthews; and three nephews, Eddie Matthews, Raymond Nix, and Larry Aldridge.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Matthews of Stamps, AR; one daughter, Donna McDowell and husband, Scoot of Lewisville, AR; three sisters, Billie Jean Craine of Siloam Springs, AR, Maxine Stevens of Springhill, AR, and Helen Bearden of Hope, AR; two sisters-in-law, Norma Kay Rowe, who was more like a daughter, and husband, Mike and Jessie Matthews; two brothers-in-law, Woody Owens and Charles Lee; grandson, Chase McDowell, who was the light of his life, and special grandson, Pooh Davis and wife, Layla; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Honoring Mr. Matthews as pallbearers will be James Crain, Bill Stevens, Mike Bearden, Tim Nix, Mark Nix, and Matt Nix.

Funeral Services will be held at 2pm Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps, AR with Bro. Mike Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Buckner, AR. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Smith Funeral Home in Stamps.
