Obituary

Mr. Donald Roy "Mokey" Sparrow, age 72 of Stamps, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2019.  He was born on September 10, 1946 in Magnolia, Arkansas to Alice Marie Finley Sparrow and Roy E Sparrow.  Mokey was a proud member of the Stamps High School Class of '64 and attended Southern Arkansas University & Red River Technical College in Hope.  Mokey retired from B&D Electric after 29 years of service as an industrial electrician.  He also served six years in the Air Force Reserves out of Barksdale Air Force Base.

Mokey was an avid sportsman and enjoyed all aspects of the outdoors.  He was a deer and duck hunter and crappie fisherman.  He loved his Labrador Retrievers, who scouted with him on the Red River searching for the best duck hole. He loved tending to his garden, and maintaining his property on the tractor. He loved youth sports and spent countless hours following high school basketball across the state, especially the Lafayette County Cougars.  He coached Dixie Boys Baseball and traveled with his teams, playing games all over the Southern US.  Mokey loved spending time traveling Arkansas, sightseeing and trout fishing on the White River.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Ann Millican Sparrow.  Children:  son, McRae of Stamps, and daughter, Lindsay Nutt and husband Stephen of Lewisville.  Grandchildren: Katherine Sparrow of Jonesboro, and Luke and Lainey Nutt of Lewisville. Mother-in-law: Doris Millican of Stamps. Siblings: Deanna Goulding, Deborah and Joe Singletary, Donna and Jesse Buchanan, brother-in-law Jerry Millican and sister-in-law Donna Millican.  Nieces and nephews:  Monica, Kaylie, Joe, Casey, Wayne, Lin, Shannon, Emily and Jesse Roy. As well as, a countless number of special friends.

Mokey was preceded in death by his parents Alice and Roy Sparrow, brother-in-law Bill Millican, and nephew Michael Millican.

Funeral service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at the Lafayette County Cougar Arena in Stamps, AR.  Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Stamps, AR under the direction of Smith Funeral Homes.  Eulogies will be delivered by Mickey May and Jake Faulkner.  Visitation will be from 6pm-8pm Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel on Thomas Street.

In lieu of flowers, the Sparrow family requests any donations be made to the Dixie Youth Baseball Scholarship fund in memory of Donald "Mokey" Sparrow.
