Obituary

Dorothy Virginia Riley Smith graduated from this life on December 6, 2014. She was born in Desha County, Arkansas on April 10, 1930 to Lois Virginia Reaves and Sidney Clarence Riley. She was the eldest of three children. Her brothers are Jack H. Riley and the late Sid Reaves Riley.
She graduated from Dermott High School in 1948. She continued her education at State Teachers College in Conway, now UCA, where she received a BSE in Home Economics in 1952.
Dorothy moved to Lafayette County to serve as the Cooperative Extension Service Home Economist. She joined the First Baptist Church of Lewisville, then she met and married Eugene Doyle Smith. After having a son and a daughter, "Mz. Smith" began her teaching career. She first taught "new math" to the baby boomer generation before settling in at her first love, Home Economics. It is estimated that she has touched the lives of over 5000 students, first as a Lewisville Red Devil, then as a Stamps Yellow Jacket. She finally retired as a Lafayette County Cougar in 2013, having served 53 years in the public schools of the county.
During her summers "off" Dorothy spent time gardening, canning and freezing the produce she grew. She loved cooking and exchanging recipes and special dishes with others.
She was the loving wife to the late Doyle Smith. They were married for 55 year, until his death in 2009. She was also a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Most treasured in Dorothy's life was her relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She has looked forward to this homecoming celebration.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Gene Smith and his wife, Vicky, of Lewisville, their children, Aaron Smith and Camille Smith, Michael and Lara Dyar, and Stephanie Dyar.
She is also survived by her daughter, Rozan Cowling and her husband Milton, their children Laura Cowling and Ross Cowling, his wife Marsha, and their sons Jaxson and Denton Cowling.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the Lafayette High School Cougar Arena with Bro. Charlie Zumwalt and Bro. Milton Cowling officiating. Interment will follow at Wilson Cemetery in Lewisville. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Lewisville.
