Mildred Elizabeth Burke Leslie, 92, went to be with her Lord on May 1, 2018. Elizabeth was born on January 20, 1926 in Stamps, AR, the first of six children to Grady and Lillian Burke. She accepted the Lord as her Savior at age 13. She graduated from Stamps High School in 1944. She received an AA degree in Home Economics from A & M College, Magnolia, AR in 1946, and married Clyde Leslie, of Nashville, AR, the same year. She was a school teacher near Willisville, AR.
Elizabeth and husband, Rev. Clyde Leslie, a Baptist minister, partnered in ministry, serving 18 churches over more than 60 years. She loved to teach beginner Sunday School and VBS, and was often the church pianist. She taught music schools with her husband. She was a pianist who accompanied singers for 2 radio programs in Rogers and Springdale, AR. She leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Elizabeth was a wonderful Mama and Grandma who loved spending time with her family. She loved to read books, play board games, and put together jigsaw puzzles. She was a great cook for anyone who visited her home. She was an accomplished seamstress, employed at Stroud's Dept. Store, Rogers, AR.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, her parents, and a grandson, Christopher Leslie.
Elizabeth is survived by a daughter, Dorothy (Greg) Parsons, Jacksonville, TX; 3 sons, James (Anita) Leslie, Damascus, AR; Paul (Kay) Leslie, Bigelow, AR; and Daniel (Jackie) Leslie, Enterprise, AL; 16 grandchildren, John Mark Parsons (Tammy), Tim Parsons, Alan Leslie (Stella), Brian Leslie (Mandy), Phil Parsons, Joy Emery (Trey), Michael Leslie (Melissa), Stephen Leslie (Rachel), Sarah Fruge' (John), Diana Henley (Matt), Luke Parsons (Rebecca), Susanna Mahoney (Josh), Caleb Leslie, Mary Tew (Jordan), Rachel Priest (Stuart), and Bekah Choppy (Tanner); and 25 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 5 siblings, Leonard (Georgia) Burke, Oklahoma City, OK; Millard (Sue) Burke, Stamps, AR; Patria Owens, Gilmer, TX; Gloria (Wayne) Bagley, Wichita Falls, TX; and Alfred Burke, Allen, TX; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at Shiloh Union Baptist Church, Stamps (Buckner), AR at 1 pm , Monday, May 7 with Bro. Tim Reddin and Dr. Greg Parsons officiating. Interment will be at Bingen-Ozan Cemetery near Nashville, AR. Visitation will be at A. O. Smith Funeral Home, Stamps, AR, 5-8 pm , Sunday, May 6 .
