Frank Jacob Schweitzer, III, passed away March 31, 2016 in Shreveport, LA. Mr. Schweitzer was born February 26, 1924 in Louisville, KY. He was educated at Xavier High School and the University Of Louisville, KY.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and attained the rank of Corpsman 1st class. While in the service, he met and married his wife, Plesine Barker, who was an Ensign in the Navy Nurse Corps. After discharge from the Navy, Mr. Schweitzer became a pharmaceutical representative for E.R. Squibb, traveling central and eastern Kentucky.

After completion of an internship in Hospital Administration, he was appointed Administrator of the newly built Lafayette County Memorial Hospital in Lewisville, AR. During his administration, the hospital had many improvements as well as several expansions. He retired after 35 years of service. Frank was a Past President of the Arkansas Hospital Association, and a Life Diplomat of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He was a member of the American Legion and the Bradley Baptist Church.

Frank Schweitzer's love of his country and the service of both him and his wife in the Navy during World War II were well known to all. If you saw an American made car travelling down the roads of Arkansas and Louisiana with a "GO NAVY" Arkansas personalized license plate, that was Frank J. as he was affectingly known, behind the wheel. Through personal letters, Mr. Schweitzer was quick to remind politicians what was best for the United States. He instilled a love of country and patriotism to his children and grandchildren.

Adding to Mr. Schweitzer's love of the United States and the US Navy was his devotion to God and he delighted those around him with his artistic talents. Frank was a regular attendee of the Bradley Baptist Church for Sunday services. He took his love of the harmonica, which he delighted his children with during their younger years, to church and played for the members. His grandchildren were always delighted to receive his hand drawn Donald Duck in Navy Dress birthday cards.

His parents, Frank J. and Nellie Schweitzer of Louisville, KY; two sisters, Nellie Jane Mathis of Louisville, KY and Mary Martha Tolliver of Albuquerque, NM; and one brother, James Schweitzer of Louisville, KY, preceded Mr. Schweitzer in death. His beloved wife, Plesine and a daughter, Marianne Moore, also preceded him in death.

One daughter, Betty and Husband Robert Toups, M.D. of Beaumont, TX, and one son, John Schweitzer of Bradley, AR, survive him.

Grandchildren, Robert Toups and wife Sharla of Cresskill, NJ, Susan and husband Brian Murphy of Bowling Green, KY, and Brian Free of Beaumont, TX, survive him.

Great Granddaughters Nina Elizabeth and Ann Marie Plesine Toups of Cresskill, NJ and Megan Toups and Lauren Elizabeth Murphy of Bowling Green, KY survive him.

Visitation will be from 2:00pm until 4:00pm on Sunday, April 3, 2016, at the Smith Funeral Home in Bradley, AR. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00am, on Monday, April 4, 2016, at the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Bradley, AR.
