Rev. Fred Lewis Walters, 78, of Prescott, AR passed away January 01, 2015 at Ouachita County Medical Center in Camden, AR.
He was born March 28, 1936 in Nevada County, AR. To Mabel Haney Jones and Johnnie Walters, Sr.
He attended Upchurch School System and graduated from McRae High School in Prescott, AR. He united at an early age with Union Grove Baptist Church in Bluff City, AR.
After accepting the call from God into the ministry, he begun his spiritual journey and pastoral service to the Roanoke Baptist Church in the Greenville Community in Gurdon, AR. For 18 yrs., Mt. Ephesus Baptist Church in Prescott, AR. For 54 yrs, and the Union Hill Baptist Church in Lewisville, AR for 22 yrs. He assisted with the organization and operation of the Community Singing Union, Prescott Community Choir, the Clark County District Association, the Columbia District Association, and the Lafayette Miller County District Association. He also served on the Prescott School District Board of Directors for 10 yrs. He was self employed as a pulpwood and logging contractor for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Mary Ruth Brown Walters
Survivors include: his children; Michele Lloyd, Freddie Burks (Richard), Vernell Walters (Della), Jeremiah Walters (Angela) all of Prescott, AR. And Rev. Joseph David Walters (Debora) of Lewisville, AR. Sisters: Mrs. Frances Williams of Little Rock, AR., and Mrs. Ethel Kirby of Chicago, IL. Brothers; Johnnie Walters, Jr. (Kizzie) of Prescott, AR, Ernest, and Horace Walters both of Little Rock, AR., Howard Walters (Dorothy) of Desota, TX, and Willie Walters (Karen) of Chicago, IL. Sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, a host of brother & sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10th , at 11:a.m. at Union Grove Baptist Church in Bluff City, AR.. With burial to follow in the church Cemetery. Under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Stamps. Officiating will be Rev. David Walters.
Visitation: Friday 12:noon till 5:p.m. at the funeral home.
