Obituary

George Vinson Gaines, 81 of Saratoga, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023, in Texarkana, Texas. George was born December 27, 1941, in Stamps, Arkansas to James Bethel and Mildred Sheppard Gaines.

He served in the National Guard, studied at Southern State University in Magnolia, Arkansas. He worked for AP&L light plant in Stamps, Arkansas and for a long period of time he was a long-distance truck driver. He was a member of the Gathering and the Church on the Rock. He was an avid football fan and enjoyed participating in the Senior Olympics, winning several awards for outstanding field performances.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Basil Staggs. One son, Christopher Gaines. One niece and nephew, Tracy Kitchens and Jeff Kitchens.

He is survived by two sons, Michael Gaines of Rosston, Arkansas and Bryan Gaines of Texarkana, Arkansas. Three granddaughters, Ashley, Hannah and Makenzie. One nephew, David Kitchens of Oklahoma. One aunt, Martha Szyperski of Arizona. One cousin, Cecil Gaines of Stamps, Arkansas and many other friends and family.

Funeral services will be 2P.M. Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps, Arkansas with Bro. Adam Rogers officiating under the direction of A.O. Smith Funeral Homes. Interment will follow at Sardis Cemetery in Stamps, Arkansas.

Visitation will be from 12P.M until 2P.M. Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the Smith Funeral Home in Stamps, Arkansas.
