Longtime cattleman, husband, father, grandpa and friend Gerald Wayne Nix, age 84, passed away March
31, 2023 in Pine Bluff, AR. The heart that had served him and many others so well, finally gave out.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 66 years Betty, sons Tim (wife Sallie), Alan (wife Drena), and Jeff Nix
(wife Angela), and a daughter Connie Wreyford (husband Todd), 5 grandchildren: TJ Wreyford and wife
Hayley (sons Jack and Whitley), Dr. Kasey Nix and wife Samantha (children Evan, Ava, Eva), Susanna Nix
(son Atticus), Madeline Nix, and Brittnee Hearnsberger and husband Zac (children Bowen, August,
Riggin, and Korban), Gerald's brother David Nix, and Gerald and Betty's adopted family Christian and
Ruby Martinez and their sons Jesse, Gabriel, and little Alan, along with, a host of other family, friends
and neighbors.

Gerald was predeceased by his parents Aubrey and Alta Myra Nix, sister Myra Lynn Smith, 2 brothers
Raymond and Manuel Nix, granddaughter Candace Nix McDaniel.

Gerald was raised on the family farm in Buckner, married the prettiest girl in southwest Arkansas,
moved to Pine Bluff where he helped build and maintain the International Paper Company Mill and
worked there until he retired, 47 years later.

After retirement he (Paw) and Betty (Maw) spent countless hours enjoying life with their kids, grandkids
and great grandkids – ball games, water parks, Branson, he was game for almost anything – especially
with those grandkids!

Throughout his life Gerald has been active, and oftentimes served in leadership roles in the Southeast
AR Horse Show Association, Game Fowl Breeders Association, the Jefferson County Cattleman's
Association, and was a decades-long member of Shannon Road Baptist Church - he loved being a part of
the Men's Brotherhood there.

Gerald has raised cows, pigs, game fowl, horses, donkeys, kids and an occasional goose, cat and dog. He
was a wealth of wisdom concerning all things livestock and shared that wisdom freely, helping many
families get their start in the cattle business.

Gerald enjoyed Southern gospel music, Native American relics, a good front pasture cow, the
Razorbacks, Cowboy poetry, story telling, and trips to the Searcy Cow Sale. Gerald was truly a man that
laid down his life for his friends, loved God and his neighbors.

Funeral services will be 2:00pm Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps,
Arkansas with Bro. Josh Blevins and Bro. Gene Triplett of Pine Bluff officiating under the direction of A.O.
Smith Funeral Homes. Interment will follow at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Buckner, Arkansas.

Pallbearers are Charles Owens, Barry Cockrell, Zac Hearnsberger, TJ Wreyford, Dr. Kasey Nix, and Jesse
Martinez. Honorary Pallbearers are Glenn Byars, Carl Caldwell, Harold Pointer, and Sonny O'Fallon.

Visitation will be prior to the funeral from 1pm until 2pm. Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at the Smith Funeral Home in Stamps, Arkansas.
