James David Brantley, Sr., age 81 of Stamps, Arkansas passed Thursday, April 17, 2014 of heart complications at his home. He was born February 20, 1933 in the Bodcaw community, north of Stamps, Arkansas to Farm Reece and Mary Elizabeth McKamie Brantley. He served as a Marine E4 Sargent  in the Korean War where he received several medals and awards for outstanding bravery, marksmanship, and leadership. During this time he married and started a family. Upon his honorable discharge he owned and operated several businesses, but his love for hunting and fishing brought him to Waldo, Arkansas where he opened Waldo Bait and Tackle. He then expanded to include Waldo Sporting Goods, Fish Market, and Fur Company which he ran successfully until his retirement in 1989. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, and spending time with family. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church of Stamps, National Rifle Association, and the American Legion.

Mr. Brantley was preceded in death by his parents of the Bodcaw community, and his oldest son, James David Brantley, Jr. of El Reno, Oklahoma.

He leaves behind his wife of sixty years Quinnie Lucille McAdams Brantley of Stamps, Arkansas; Five children: Donna Gale King and husband Tim of Amity, Arkansas, Lori Genette Rogers and fiancé Jackie Plumley of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Terry Andrew Brantley and wife Tammy of Ridgecrest, California, MaryAnn Allen of Magnolia, Arkansas, and Lisa Marie Snyder of St. Louis, Missouri. Eight grandchildren: Tanya Renee Larkins of Dallas, Texas, Seth Levi Brantley-Harrison of Mid-City, Oklahoma, Amy Marie Plumley-Rogers of Little Rock, Arkansas, Rachel Ann Cagle of Cabot, Arkansas, Susan Renee King of Alexander, Arkansas, Tasha Nicole Lucille Brantley of St. Louis, Missouri, Micheal Lynn Allen of Magnolia, Arkansas, Nicole Dawn Allen of Magnolia, Arkansas. Ten great-grandchildren: Hailee, Zane, Tyler, Conner, Skylar, Brooke, Ashley, Chloe, Isabella, and Braydon. One brother: Jessie Eugene Brantley of Garland City, Arkansas. One sister Inez Smart of Waxahachie, Texas, and Travis and Pat McKamie of Bodcaw, Arkansas. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Graveside services with military honors will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the lower Shiloh Cemetery near Bodcaw with Bro. Charlie Warren officiating and under the direction of A.O Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Monday, April 21, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Stamps. The family will be gathered at the family home in Stamps to welcome friends and family that wish to visit.
