J.D. Ormand of Stamps, Arkansas, passed from this world of pain into Heaven's glory on Monday, February 19, 2018. Mr. Ormand was born May 3, 1935 in Stephenville, Texas. His love for football in high school was a memory he cherished. A star running back for the Stamps Yellow Jackets and being elected as the Homecoming Captain stirred the interest of the Homecoming Queen whom he later married. He proudly served in the United States Army for two years and was stationed in Germany. Later, he served one year in New Orleans after reactivation. He returned home at the rank of Sergeant. J.D. worked as a body repairman for Stamps Auto Company and later for David Morehead Auto Repair. He was a proud letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Stamps retiring after seventeen years of service. He also served as an Alderman for the Stamps City Council.

Mr. Ormand is preceded in death by his parents, Ocie and Pearl Ormand; two brothers, Bobby Ormand and Bill Ormand; and one sister, Alma Carr.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Lanie Sue Ormand of Stamps, AR; one son, Danny Ormand and wife, Patricia; two grandsons, Josh Ormand and Braxton Harris all of Stamps, AR; four nieces, Carol Jean Moring and husband, Ronnie, Frankie Carr, Teresa Ormand Dickens, and Patricia Land; two nephews, Jimmy Carr and Jerry Ormand all of Stephenville, TX; and many other family and friends.

J.D. leaves behind a legacy of honesty, dignity, and hard work. Expecting a lot from his son and grandsons by teaching them what a man should be in life and as a Christian.

A Celebration of His Life will be held at 10am Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps, AR with Rev. John Noggle officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Stamps. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel on Thomas Street.
