Lewis Faye
Whistle
Jun 27, 1951 — Nov 19, 2020
Lewis Faye Whistle, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away at age 69 on November 19, 2020 in Texarkana, Texas.
Lewis was born on June 27, 1951 in Lewisville, Arkansas, where she spent the majority of her early life. Here, she attended Lewisville High School and was an active part of her school's community, playing basketball, being a majorette, and a cheerleader (not to mention always holding the esteemed title of "Best Dressed" in the yearbook). Later, she decided to take on both family life and college, continuing her education in her mid-40s at Texas A&M University, at Texarkana, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Lewis taught at Lewisville Elementary for over 20 years, retiring in 2014 to spend more time with her family.
She was known by those closest to her as "Mimi" and "Aunt Lewis", and her favorite thing to do was spend time with the people who called her by those names. Anyone that knew her, knew that Mimi was an avid watcher of three things: Razorback basketball and football, birds, and sci-fi movies. In addition to these hobbies, she also loved the holidays and decorating her house festively. She always had a themed wreath on her front door. She also loved doing things she knew would make the people she loved happy. Mimi enjoyed a good cup of coffee and an audiobook on a long drive. Among many other wonderful qualities, she was the greatest listener of all time.
Lewis is preceded in death by her son, Joshua Whistle; her father, Elton Marlar; her mother, Nina Marlar; her brother, James "Sonny" Marlar; her sister, Ruth Ann Mitchell; and her niece, Leslie Mitchell. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Whistle Stanley; her granddaughter, Madison Stanley; her nieces, Chrystal Marlar and Cherie Bobb; her great-nephews, Brayden Upchurch, Alex Bobb and Austin Bobb; her great-nieces, Katie Williams and Haleigh Ewing; and her grand-dog, Bodgie.
Her life will be celebrated privately with a graveside service for close friends and family. Flowers will be received at A.O. Smith Funeral Home until Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at end of day.
