Margaret Hawley Edwards, aged 95, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon surrounded by friends and family at her home in Lewisville, Arkansas.  Margaret was a loving mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend to many, and will be sorely missed.

Margaret was born on February 2, 1930 in Bagwell, Texas.  Her parents were Henry and Rosie Bell Castleman Hawley Carter.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Luther (Lum), her parents, and her eight brothers and sisters, Grady, Christine, Henry (Bo), Lois, John Earl, Molly, Jimmy, and Lena Ann.

Margaret was a farmer/rancher at heart, and ran a thriving cattle business for many years. She much preferred filling her cows water trough at the farm over gassing up cars at Edwards Service Station in Lewisville, much to Lum's chagrin. She claimed her favorite Christmas gift over the years was her new John Deere tractor. She was a proud volunteer firefighter for the Mars Hill Fire Department for many years. Margaret was a true outdoorsman, evidenced by her love of being on a tractor bailing hay, feeding and caring for her cows and her two donkeys Kit and Kate, gardening, and tinkering in her flower beds. One morning a copperhead tried to claim her front flower bed.  Needless to say, Margaret won that fight.

Margaret loved to travel, and her favorite vacations were camping and salmon fishing in Alaska as well as riding the waves on Royal Caribbean.  Margaret enjoyed her family, friends, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lewisville.

Margaret is survived by one son, Dr. Mark Edwards of Dallas, Texas, a number of nieces and nephews, a dear friend and neighbor who she considered her daughter, Cindy (and husband Johnny) and her beloved niece Tonya Hawley-Phifer (and husband Will), who took excellent care of her during the last 6 months, and who will take loving care of her cherished fur-babies, Sadie, Addi, Kit, Kate and Oreo.

Family Visitation will be Thursday, June 12th at Smith Funeral Home, Stamps, Arkansas from 5pm until 7pm and her Memorial Service will be Friday, June 13th at 2 pm at the Chapel of the Funeral Home.
