Mattie Octavie Fitzgerald, 94, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, at Christus Highland Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. Mattie was born on May 17, 1930, and lived a long and fulfilling life filled with love, family, and cherished memories. She was member of Beacon Baptist Church. Ms. Mattie also really enjoyed spending her mornings drinking coffee and talking to baby Ernest. She also enjoyed talking about hunting and fishing with Bruce and sharing how his great gram paw did as well and sharing her life story with Zoie every chance she got.
She is preceded in death by her parents, M.L. and Mae Bishop; her beloved husband, Bruce Fitzgerald; brothers, William "Pete" Bishop and James Kerlin Bishop; sister, Mary Ellen Fitzgerald; three children, Bruce Fitzgerald Jr., Alfred Fitzgerald, and Elvis Fitzgerald; and daughters-in-law, Sonia Fitzgerald, Leta Fitzgerald, and Kimberly Fitzgerald; and a great grandson Spencer Pickard
Mattie is survived by her three sons: Milton Fitzgerald, Douglas Fitzgerald (Loretta), and Vernon Fitzgerald. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Warren Fitzgerald (Taylor), Nathan Smith, Dustin Fitzgerald, Reece Fitzgerald, Kaitlin Bailey, and Pamela Fitzgerald; Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren; Zoie Fitzgerald, Bruce Fitzgerald, Ernest Fitzgerald, Carson Smith, Devin Pickard, Jaxx Pickard, Dawson Fitzgerald, Addison Fitzgerald, Adlyn Fitzgerald, and many others who will honor her memory.
The family extends a special thank you to the compassionate and caring staff at Highland Medical Center for their unwavering support and kindness during this difficult time. Mattie's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

Visitation will be from 9A.M. until 10A.M. Friday December 20, 2024, at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps.
Funeral services will be 10 A.M. Friday, December 20, 2024, at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps, Arkansas with Bro. John Nations and Bro. Gladney Hunt officiating, under direction of A.O. Snith Funeral Homes Inc., with interment to follow at Bussey Cemetery.
