Ms. Mildred Berry Thompson, 86, of Lewisville, AR. passed away Sunday, April 19th , at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, TX.

She was born May 7, 1928 in McKamie, AR. To Luther and Ethel Bagsby Berry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; James Thompson, Jr., daughter; Ethel Friend, son; Morris Thompson, and seven siblings.

She was a 1946 graduate of the Lafayette County Training School in Lewisville, AR., a faithful and active member of the Cross Roads Missionary Baptist Church in Lewisville, AR., served as Mission President. Her past employment was with the Lafayette County Hospital, East Texas Legal Services, and Arkla Gas Co. serving as a Community Relations Specialist before retiring in 1986. She was a political and community activist who would go out of her way to help people in need, "A Voice For The Voiceless". She led the fight to integrate the Lewisville Public School System, a active participant in the NAACP, receiving a Certificate of Recognition for 51 Years of Service. Other awards received was, Civil and Human Rights Award, The Sapphire Award, & African American Women in the rural south empowering the community to change.

Survivors include: two daughters; Ms. Carolyn Thompson of Long Beach, CA. and Ms. Sarah Thompson James of Stamps, AR. Three adopted daughters; Ms. Nwani Thompson of Dallas, TX., Ms. Keilani Lewis, and Ms. Chrystillis Thompson both of Texarkana, TX. Eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, her sisters-in-laws; Ms. Elizabeth Robinson, Ms. Mary Lee Thompson, an uncle; Norvell Berry, A host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 25th , at 1:p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps, AR. With burial to follow in the Old Town Cemetery in Lewisville, AR. . Under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Inc. of Stamps, AR. Officiating will be Rev. Clifford Murray, assisted by Rev. McArthur Turner

A wake will be held Friday from 5-6:pm at the funeral home.
