Murrah
Pickler
Feb 3, 1920 — Aug 2, 2021
Taylor
Murrah Griffin Pickler, age 101, of Taylor, Arkansas passed August 2, 2021 at her home. She was born February 3, 1920 in Walker Creek, Arkansas to Paul Jones Griffin and Lena Glasgow Griffin. Mrs. Pickler was a faithful member of Taylor United Methodist Church. She enjoyed going to arts and crafts shows, working in her flower and vegetable gardens, traveling in the camper and fishing.
Murrah was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Wayne Pickler; parents, Paul and Lena Griffin; and three brothers, Willard Griffin, Edwin Griffin and Steve Griffin.
She is survived by two daughters, Lena Patricia Pickler of Taylor, AR and Paula Hadwin and husband, Larry of Minden, LA; grandchild, Heath Monroe Hadwin and wife, Leslie; great grandchildren, Jordan Skylar Hadwin and Cooper Grace Hadwin.
Graduating at age 16 from high school (at Southern State College) and again from college at age 18, Murrah helped start the school at Walker Creek where she taught eight subjects a day. She had many students who were older than she was. She loved all her students and they loved her back. Firm and fair were good words to describe her.
Murrah lived a long and happy life with her husband, Wayne, for almost 75 years. They married on January 24, 1940 and celebrated 74 years of marriage before his death in 2014.
She wanted to be 100 years (or so she thought)! She always said old age was not for sissies! Making it to 101 was quite a feat after having a stroke in December 2020. She had battled bladder cancer and skin cancer along the way.
Murrah loved her family greatly. No one could have been prouder of a grandchild, when Heath was born! When her two great-grandchildren were born, it was another time of great joy!
To all her friends and family, thank you for all the concern and help during the past years. Our appreciation goes out to our "helpers," Grace, Rolanda, Merilyn, Marilyn, Jasmine, Shirley, Frances, Dorothy and Tina. She loved you all very much. Also, Magnolia Home Health and Encompass Hospice were so kind and helpful to mother and her family.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 10:00AM at Taylor Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Spencer Plumley. A visitation will be before the service from 9:30AM-10:00AM at the cemetery.
