Nellie Rae Nichols, age 74, of Doddridge, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2015, in Texarkana, Texas. Mrs. Nichols was born February 14, 1941, to Oscar E. and Mary Hawkins Givens in Bradley, Arkansas. She was retired from the Arkansas Forestry Service. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Doddridge, very active in the WMU, taught a Sunday School Class for many years and was an avid supporter of the Youth Group in her Church.
Nellie was a very special person and touched many lives. She loved her family and friends dearly and was always there if someone was needed. She will always be remembered for her Christian love and caring ways.
Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Black Nichols, and a sister, Mary Ann Givens.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Lisa Nichols and two grandchildren, Grayson Nichols and Mikayla Nichols all of Stamps, Arkansas. Also surviving are her siblings, Betty Rich (Donald) of Texarkana, TX, Frances Patterson (Randy) of Doddridge, AR, Pat Calhoon (Wiley) of Texarkana, AR, Oscar Givens (Glenda) of Atlanta, TX, and Bill Givens (Fran) of McNeil, AR. Numerous special nieces and nephews and a host of additional family and friends also survive her, including two very special friends who were like sisters to her - Martha Mueller of Texarkana and Lavern Endsley of Doddridge.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Buddy Calhoon, Greg Calhoon, Mark Dilbeck and Trey Givens of Texarkana, Stephen Patterson of Doddridge and Todd Scruggs of Magnolia, AR.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Friday, November 6, 2015, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Doddridge, AR with Bro. George Goynes, Jr. and Dr. Randy Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow at Corinth Cemetery in Bodcaw, AR, under the direction of Smith Funeral Homes of Stamps, AR. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm, Thursday, November 5, 2015, at the funeral home.
