Oscar Eugene Givens, Jr., affectionately known as "Bubba, Dirt, Pappy, and Papaw" passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025. Born on August 13, 1948, in Plain Dealing, Louisiana, Oscar's life was a testament to faith, service, and devotion to family.

Oscar was a loving husband for 53 years to his beloved wife, Glenda L. Givens, of Atlanta, Texas. Together they built a wonderful life and family, including their two children, a son, Oscar E. Givens III (Trey) and his wife Rebecca, of Texarkana, Texas, and a daughter, Jennifer M. Hamilton and her husband Phillip W. Hamilton, of Atlanta, Texas.

His role as a grandfather was one of his greatest joys, and he delighted in watching the accomplishments of his seven grandchildren: Drake Hamilton, Hannah and Wade Carter, Brynna Givens, Madisyn Givens, Aidan Hamilton, Zayne Givens, and Makenna Hamilton. His grandchildren fondly joked he was their "bionic papaw" due to the metal in his body—a nod to his enduring strength and spirit.

A proud veteran, Oscar entered the U.S. Air Force on August 29, 1968. During his distinguished military career, he served as a Maintenance Analyst on B-1 and B-2 bombers, retiring as a Master Sergeant on September 1, 1988. Following his service, he began a second career with the U.S. Postal Service, where he later retired.

Oscar's deep faith guided his life. He was saved at the age of eleven at Canfield Baptist Church in Canfield, Arkansas. He was a devoted member of Antioch Baptist Church for many years, serving as a Deacon for 30 years. He was active in many church programs, currently serving as Sunday School Director, Enon Association Representative, and Assistant with the Youth Program. Oscar truly had a servant's heart, always willing to help anyone in need and loved the Lord with all his heart.

Oscar was a man of simple pleasures and deep passions. He enjoyed fishing, which was always followed by eating a delicious fish sandwich the next day. His annual hunting trips to Colorado were cherished adventures. He loved to garden, with nothing making him happier than having the first red tomatoes of the season. He was an avid reader of good Western books and raised cattle of his own which turned him into "half a rancher, half a pet owner." Oscar loved to cook for and spend time with his family. He and Glenda shared a love for traveling and vacationing, and together they had explored almost all of the country, having only four states left on their goal to visit all 50.

Oscar's siblings include Betty Rich of Texarkana, Texas, Francis Patterson and Randy Patterson of Doddridge, Arkansas, Pat Calhoon and Wiley Calhoon of Texarkana, Arkansas, and Bill Givens and Fran Givens of McNeil, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar E. Givens Sr.; his mother, Mary Azalee Hawkins; his sisters, Mary Ann Givens and Nellie R. Nichols; and his grandsons, Bryce Evan Givens and Hayden Zayne Givens.

Oscar will be remembered for the profound impact he had on everyone he met. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, devotion, and kindness. His wish for his memory was this:

Funeral services will be held 1P.M. Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Doddridge, Arkansas with Bro. Randy Hawkins and Bro. John Givens officiating under the direction of A.O. Smith Funeral Home.
