On September 13, 2014, 72 year old John Pat McMurrough went home to be with his heavenly father. Pat was born March 17, 1942 in Hope, Arkansas to Jack and Mary McMurrough. He was a life long and faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Stamps. He graduated from Stamps High School and then continued his education at Southern State University in Magnolia graduating with a bachelor's degree in business. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad after thirty plus years of faithful service. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and spending time with his kids.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, son Stacy McMurrough, granddaughter Lucretia Faith Harris, and mother-in-law Marjorie Cheatham.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years Janice McMurrough; Son, Johnny McMurrough; Daughter, Patricia Lamb; Sister, Brenda Russell and husband Bill; Father-in-Law Bryce Cheatham, Sr.; Grandchildren, Bubba John McMurrough, Braxton Harris, Heather Huckabee, Ashley McMurrough, Chasity McMurrough, Casey and Tracy McMurrough, Molly, Colby, and Brittany Harris; Five Great-Grandchildren; Three Brother-in-Laws, Senator Eddie Cheatham and wife Ginger, Bryce "Sonny" Cheatham, Jr. and wife Jeanine, and Roger Cheatham and wife Theresa; Sister-in-Law Mary Gordon, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps with the Rev. Mark Rivers officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside cemetery in Stamps under the direction of A.O. Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2014 at the funeral home in Stamps.
