Plesine Barker Schweitzer, CRNA, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2014 after a wonderful life. She and her parents and siblings Billy, Roy and Eva lived a lifetime in Bradley, Arkansas. Plesine graduated from Bradley High School. She fulfilled a life dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. Shortly after graduation, she enlisted in the Navy during WWII. She was commissioned an Ensign in the Navy Hospital Corps. During her Navy Service, she met her husband, Frank J. Schweitzer, who was in the Navy Hospital Corps. They were married while in the Service. After discharged, they moved to Bradley for a short time. They were soon to live in Lewisville for 35 years. Her husband was appointed Administrator of the newly completed Lafayette County Memorial Hospital. Plesine was also engaged to become Director of Nursing at the hospital. Soon after the hospital opened, there was, nationally, a severe shortage of anesthetists. Plesine then went to Charity Hospital in New Orleans and graduated with honors from Charity School of Anesthesia. After a year of school she came back to Lewisville hospital. She gave anesthesia to Lewisville hospital and hospitals in Hope, Magnolia and Texarkana due to the shortage of anesthetists. She retired after 34 years of anesthesia. She was a member of Bradley Baptist Church.

Mrs. Schweitzer was preceded in death by her daughter, Marianne Moore.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Schweitzer; daughter, Betty Jean and husband, Dr. Robert Toups of Beaumont, TX; son, John Franklin Schweitzer of Bradley, AR; three grandchildren, Robert Toups, Susan Toups, and Brian Free; four great grandchildren, Nina Toups, Annie Toups, Megan Murphy and Laurea Murphy; and sister, Dianne and husband, Roy Rogers of Bradley, AR.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Bradley, AR with Rev. Imond Washington and Bro. Aaron Leggett officiating under the direction of Smith Funeral Homes of Stamps, AR. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until noon Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Bradley.
