Thorald Dow
Nicholas
Nov 24, 1928 — Oct 31, 2019
Patmos
Thorald Dow, "T.D." Nicholas of Patmos, AR passed from this life and onto his forever home on October 31, 2019 at the age of 90 years young. The day before he got sick, he went out fishing with his boots on and played dominoes. It was a great day. He leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Loretta, and their two daughters, Linda Kay Law and Theresa Murphy.
T.D. was born on November 24, 1928 in Stamps, AR to father Aaron Nicholas and mother Bertha. He grew up in Stamps, AR.
T.D. married Loretta on March 17, 1949. They lived in Stamps before buying 80 acres and building a home in Patmos, AR where they raised their three children: Theresa, Terry Don, and Linda Kay. He was a farmer and a trapper, running Nick's Fur Shed in the 80s. He knew how to live off the land raising cows, chickens, turkeys, and even deer. His gardens produced the sweetest corn and juiciest tomatoes you have ever tasted. T.D. was a faithful member of the Patmos Church of Christ for over 60 years.
T.D. was an avid hunter, fisherman, and all-around outdoorsman. He was the founder and president of the High Line Deer Club for over 60 years. When he wasn't hunting or fishing, you could find him playing (and beating) friends and family in checkers, dominoes, and cards. T.D. was known for his quick wit, humor, and talent for story-telling. He was a friend, mentor, and teacher to many in the community. But most of all he was our beloved "Daddy" and "Pa" and will be greatly missed.
T.D. is survived by his wife; two daughters; a sister: Daris Wheelington; six grandchildren: Jerry Don Rogers, Terry Michael "Mickey" Rogers, Linda "Sissy" Goodner, Dana Minter, Jessica Harriman, and Cole Law; and nine great grandchildren: Caleb Rogers, Mattie Rogers, Leslie Goodner, Skylir and Kristin Cole Phillips, Rye Minter, Mary Ella and Rhett Harriman, and Jess Cole Law III. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Terry Don Nicholas.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 2PM at the A.O. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps with Bro. Mickey May and Bro. Jamie Knighton officiating. Visitation will start at 1PM before the service.
Memorials may be made in T.D.'s name to the Patmos Church of Christ, 291 Hempstead 140, Hope, AR 71801.
