Velvin Louise Sheffield Hampton, 84, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2022, in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Velvin was born in Stamps, Arkansas, on April 21, 1938, to Temple and Lewis (Farr) Sheffield. She graduated from Stamps High School in 1956 and then attended Southern State College (now Southern Arkansas University) in Magnolia.

Velvin married Terrell Hampton in 1959, and together they had two sons, the younger of whom died in infancy. She and her family moved to suburban Chicago, Illinois, in 1970, where she worked as a special-education teacher's aide for many years.

Velvin returned to Arkansas after her husband's death in 2005 and lived with her older son and his family. She was instrumental in helping to raise her grandson following the death of his mother in 2011.

Velvin was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her younger son, Timothy Clay Hampton; daughter-in-law, Betsy Hampton; and her sister, Mary Jo Sheffield Gooch. She is survived by her son Curt Hampton (Dannell); grandson Joseph Hampton (Hannah); and great-granddaughter Ayda Jayne Hampton.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00P.M. on Monday, June 20, 2022, at Frazier Cemetery on Columbia 27S, west of Magnolia, with Bro. David Hampton officiating under the direction of A.O. Smith Funeral Home.
